I had just turned on my laptop when I received a mail from my HR informing about the meeting. He asked me to come with the laptop and nobody was copied except my boss then
General Manager. I was working as a design engineer that time. I had a big argument with my boss the day before so I thought it might be related to that, some warning etc.
As soon as I reached his office, he told me that my boss was not happy with my performance and that I had been terminated immediately and was asked to give my laptop the same
time.
My response? blank
I gave my laptop to him and left the office taking my stuff. I told everybody about my termination who met me on the way and asked me why I was leaving with stuff. The good thing
was I took that in the good spirit without any embarrassment as I was already not sharing good terms with my boss.
I went to Starbucks straight from the office. I took out my notepad and wrote down all the things I always wanted to do but couldn't due to my 12 hours job. The first thing I wrote
was a solo trip. The list was like this:
solo trip
complete a book- which I have been writing since a year
start NGO- which I always wanted to
read one novel in a month
I did everything mentioned above. I left the next day for the solo trip of four days and the trip made me realize many things which I was missing in my life. I did complete my book and
published it. I did start my own NGO and I did read one book in a month and still doing it.
When life gives you lemons, make lemonade!! :)
